We aim to reunite theatre with the masses by creating an experience based in substance that rejects pretension and frivolity. Through the marriage of technology and honest storytelling, we endeavor to revitalize our craft for a modern audience.
The representation of all walks of life is a fundamental part of our philosophy. We open our arms to any and all to participate in the Monument experience, whether that be in our audience, onstage, or those we collaborate with offstage.
We believe theatre is more than just entertainment. Storytelling has been central to the human experience since the dawn of man and needs redesigned for the modern audience. Our goal is to create classics for the present day and refute the practice of pacifying and pandering so commonplace in commercial theatre.
The world in which we live must be confronted. Our purpose is to examine all that we encounter every day and provide the people with an experience that resonates within their heart, mind, and soul.
Monument was conceived in 2016. As emerging artists the core company were overworked, under slept, and unfulfilled. They were ground down and surrounded by work they didn't believe in - work that was uninspiring and subpar. It became evident that substance and soul had been brushed aside in favor of buzzwords and superficiality. They decided it was up to them to do their part in changing the culture and perception of the craft they love. It became their goal to create new, challenging, and lasting work and to place it alongside long-standing classics to remind the people what theatre was meant to do. This team is comprised of individuals who are equally passionate and relentlessly driven. Together they leveraged their talents and vision to create a professional company that serves as the breeding ground of substantial, thought-provoking work.
